Standard Definition
ASTM F1917 is a mandatory safety standard for baby bedding products issued by ASTM. The current latest version is ASTM F1917-23 (updated in February 2023), which replaces F1917-20. The scope of application includes bed skirts, blankets, bed covers, canopy covers, pillows, mattress covers, diaper storage, fabric wall hangings, crib bumpers/padding, quilts, and other baby room items.
Testing And Certification Requirements
Physical Security: The exposed length of cords and straps is ≤76mm; there are no small detachable parts; the bed rail must indicate “Removable when children are sitting/standing”; there are no sharp edges or risk of pinching/cutting.
Chemical Security: The total lead content of accessible components is ≤100 ppm, and the lead content of coatings is ≤90 ppm; the concentration of eight phthalates is ≤0.1%.
Marking Requirements: The manufacturer, applicable age range, and safety warnings must be marked; the bed rail and mattress cover should include specific usage instructions.
The product must undergo testing by a laboratory accredited by ISO 17025 before it can be marketed in North America.
