Standard Definition
ASTM F1235 is a specialized safety standard for portable hook-style chairs. The current version F1235-25, with the previous version F1235-18 incorporated into federal regulations (16 CFR Part 1233) by the US CPSC. This standard applies to hook-style dining chairs and is essential for compliance in the North American market.
Testing and certification requirements
Products must undergo comprehensive testing by CPSC-approved third-party laboratories to serve as the basis for issuing a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC).
The core requirements include:
Structural Safety: The hook must withstand a load of 45 kg without slipping, and a 10° slope without tipping over; falling without sharp points or small parts; Prevention of Clamping and Injury: The movable gaps must be less than 5.3 mm or greater than 12 mm, with no sharp edges and spiral springs protected by covers; Restraint System: The seat belt attachment points must withstand a pull force of 200N, and the hip restraint must be removable only with tools;
Material Safety: Lead and phthalates content must meet limits, and there must be no easily detachable small parts; Marking Requirements: Permanent labels must be affixed indicating weight capacity, age, and warnings, accompanied by a registration card. F1235-25 introduces new requirements for battery compartments and label durability.
