Source:Besa Testing

Core Objective

Prevent accidents such as tipping, falling, pinching, entrapment, and suffocation when children are using high chairs.

Standard Definition

ASTM F404 is a specialized American safety standard for children’s high chairs, formally designated as ASTM F404-21. It has been mandated by the U.S. CPSC and incorporated into the 16 CFR Part 1231 regulations, which apply to independent high chairs designed for use by children aged 3 years or younger, with a seat height of greater than 381 mm.

Testing and Certification Requirements

The test report issued by a third-party laboratory accredited by the CPSC must include the version number ASTM F404-21. High chairs must meet the requirements for structural, physical safety, chemical safety, and labeling/warning requirements to comply with ASTM F404-21, which is a mandatory entry requirement for the US market and is governed by CPSC regulations.
