16 CFR Part 1241Safety Standard for Crib Mattresses

What is a “crib mattress”?
According to the definitions in 16 CFR Part 1241 and ASTM F2933-21a, a crib mattress refers to:
Structural characteristics: dimensions suitable for cribs, gaps ≤ 2 cm, material sturdy and non-deformable.
Functional purpose: to provide a safe sleeping support for infants.
Testing and Certification Requirements
Third-party testing:
The crib mattress must be tested by a third-party laboratory accredited by the CPSC to ensure compliance with 16 CFR Part 1241/ASTM F2933-21a and all other applicable safety regulations for children’s products.
Child Product Certificate (CPC):
Domestic manufacturers or importers must issue a Child Product Certificate (CPC) based on the results of third-party testing, with the following clearly stated in Part 2 of the certificate (Reference Standards): “16 CFR Part 1241 – Infant crib mattresses.”
