Core objectives
To minimize the risks of injuries and fatalities associated with the use of baby bathtubs, particularly drowning, slipping, product collapse, and battery safety issues.
What is an “infant bath basin”?
According to the definitions in 16 CFR Part 1234 and ASTM F2670, an infant bath basin refers to:
Structural characteristics: a basin, enclosure, or other similar product.
Placement: placed within an adult bathtub, sink, or other surface.
Functional purpose: to provide support or restraint for an infant during bathing (or both), allowing the infant to be in a reclined, seated, or standing position.
Testing and certification requirements.
Third-party testing:
Baby bath tubs must be tested by a third-party laboratory accredited by the CPSC to ensure compliance with 16 CFR Part 1234/ASTM F2670 standards and all other applicable safety regulations for children’s products.
Children’s Product Certificate (CPC):
Domestic manufacturers or importers must issue a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) based on third-party testing results. The Certificate’s Part 2 (Reference Standards) must clearly state: “16 CFR part 1234 – Infant bath tubs.”
