What is a “children’s folding chair”?
According to the definitions in 16 CFR Part 1232 and ASTM F2613, a child folding chair is defined as:
Structural characteristics: a seating furniture item with a rigid frame.
Purpose of Use: To provide support for a child’s body, limbs, or feet while sitting or resting in a standing or reclined position.
Additional Features: It can be folded for easy transportation or storage. Target Audience: Products that allow children to enter and exit independently (without restraint systems).
What is a “children’s folding stool”?
A childfolding stool refers to a type of chair for children that features:
Structural characteristics: a chair without a backrest or armrest.
Additional features: it can be folded to facilitate transportation or storage.
Testing and certification requirements.
Third-party testing:
Childfold chairs and benches must be tested by a third-party laboratory accredited by the CPSC to ensure compliance with 16 CFR Part 1232/ASTM F2613 standards and all other applicable safety regulations for children’s products.
Children’s Product Certificate (CPC):
Domestic manufacturers or importers must issue a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) based on third-party testing results. The Certificate’s Part 2 (Reference Standards) must clearly state: “16 CFR part 1232 – Children’s folding chairs and children’s products.”
