16 CFR Part 1223 Safety Standard for Infant Swings
Core objectives
Minimize the risk of injuries or fatalities associated with the use of baby swings, including the dangers of swings tipping over or collapsing, structural failures, and entanglement in restraint systems or getting stuck in leg openings.
What is an “infant swing chair”?
According to the definition in ASTM F2088, an infant swing is a fixed device with a frame and a power mechanism that allows an infant to be swayed in a seated position.
Applicable Products:
All baby swings that use a power mechanism to provide movement, and those that offer rocking or sliding seats in any direction.
Non-Applicable Products:
This standard does not apply to manual (non-power-driven) swings.
Third-party testing:
Testing must be conducted by a third-party laboratory accredited by the CPSC to ensure compliance with the standards for baby swings and all other applicable safety regulations for children’s products.
Children’s Product Certificate (CPC):
