EU REACH SVHC List Updated to 253 Items, Adding 2 High-Risk Substances

Source:Besa Testing

On February 4, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) officially updated the SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) candidate list!

New additions include hexane (neurotoxicity) and 4,4′-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl) ethylene] bis(bisphenol) (BPAF) and its salts (reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption). The total number of items on the list has increased to 253.

Key compliance requirements:

If the SVHC content in a product exceeds 0.1%, safety information must be transmitted to downstream entities.

If the content exceeds 0.1% and the annual export volume is greater than 1 ton, notification to ECHA must be made within 6 months.

Products containing substances above the threshold must complete the SCIP database submission prior to being released into the EU market.

Companies involved in the export of electronic equipment, textiles, cosmetics, and paints to the EU must urgently conduct a supply chain review to mitigate market access risks.
