ABNT NBR NM 300-2 Toy Safety - Part 2: Flammability.

Primary Objective:

To prevent therisk of fires caused by the burning of toy materials, restrict the use of flammable materials in toys, and avoid the rapid spread of flames, which could cause injuries such as burns andsuffocation to children, thereby ensuring the safety of toy combustion performance.


Standard Definition:

A Brazilian mandatory toy safety standard, based on the frameworks of ISO 8124-2 and EN 71-2. The current valid version is the 2004 edition. It specifies requirementsfor the combustion characteristics of various types of toys (including party supplies for children) and outlines clear methods for testing flammability and determining the criteria for classification.


Testing and Certification Requirements:

The scope of testing covers the entiretoy, as well as components such as fabrics and fillings. Exclusions include provisions related to 4.1. Key areas of evaluation include the speed of flame propagation and the durationof combustion. Testing must comply with the requirements of Annex I, 5.2. 11 and 5.4 of Decree INMETRO 302/2021. Certification requirements include inclusion in INMETRO's mandatory certification program. A test report must be issued by a qualified laboratory, accompanied by technical documentation in Portuguese. The certification process must be completed by a representative from Brazil, and the certificate is valid for one year.
