Primary Purpose:
To ensure the physical safety of children when using toys, preventing injuries caused by mechanical structure defects, physical hazard risks (such as small parts falling off, sharp edges, etc.), and providing a unified framework for assessing mechanical and physical safety for toys entering the Brazilian market.
Standard Definition:
A mandatory toy safety standard for Brazil, based on ISO 8124-1 and EU EN 71-1, integrating requirements from Brazilian NBR 11786. It regulates general properties, mechanical strength, and physical characteristics of toys, applicable to various types of children's toys and party-related children's products. The current version in effect is the 2011 edition (including relevant amendments and updates).
Testing and Certification Requirements:
The scope of testing covers structural stability, impact resistance, small part dimensions, sharp edges/points, noise limits,and excludes certain specific clauses (e.g., 4.28, 5.24).
Testing basis: Compliance with the test items specified in Appendix A of Decree No. 302 of INMETRO (e.g., 5.1.1-5.1.4, 5.3.1-5.3.34).
Certification requirements: Integration into the mandatory INMETRO certification system in Brazil, requiring a test report from a qualified laboratory, provision of technical documentation in Portuguese, and participation in the certification process through a Brazilian representative. The certificate is valid for one year.
