AATCC TM20A Method for Fiber Analysis: Quantitative Method.

Primary Objective:

To quantitatively determine the moisture content, non-fiber content, and the proportion of blendedfiber components in textiles using mechanical, chemical, and microscopic techniques, providing data support for product composition identification and quality control. The content was updated in 2025.


Standard Definition:

Applicability: Suitable for various types of textile products, including raw fibers, yarns, and fabric samples, covering natural fibers (cotton, wool), synthetic fibers (viscose), and blended combinations of natural and synthetic fibers.

Key Terms: Fiber quantitative analysis: the process of determining the proportion of various fibers and related component content in textiles. Non-fiber content: the proportion of oil agents, waxes, and starches in textiles, which are not fibers. Mechanical separation method: atest technique used for textiles with separated fibers or layers, where different fibers are physically separated.


Testing and Certification Requirements:

Sample Preparation: Take representative samples, dry them at 105-110°C, and remove surface non-fiber impurities.

Quantitative Testing: Choose methods based on fiber type, mechanically separate the yarn fibers, use specific solvents to dissolve certain types of fibers chemically, and use microscopy to assist in observation and counting.

Result Calculation: Calculate the proportion of various fibers based on the weight after drying and other methods.

Compliance and Safety Requirements: Follow the 2025 revised standard; laboratories must have specialized equipmentand reagents. Flammable and corrosive reagents must be handled in fume hoods. Maintain complete test records, including sample information, test methods, and calculated results.
