SOR /2016 /152 Cradles and cribs Regulations
Core purpose
To regulate the structural design and material safety of cribs, cradles, bedside cribs and other sleep products, to prevent accidents such as clipping, falling, asphyxia and chemical poisoning, and to safeguardthe sleep safety of infants 0-12 months of age.
Standard definition:
SOR / 2016-152 is a mandatory sleep product safety regulation under the framework of CCPSA.Effective in December 2016, it applies to cribs, cradles, bedside cribs (detachable side rail design) with a sleep area of 550,00Omm2, and does not apply to game fencing, travel beds and separately sold mattresses. Itis the core compliance standard for the Canadian baby sleep product market.
Testing and certification requirements
Products need to be officially recognized by Canada's third partylaboratory full testing, the core requirements are as follows:
structural safety: guardrail clearance 6-23cm; The bedboard shall pass a load test and shall not deformation or break under normal use and reasonable abuse. The hardware parts are strong and unloose, and thefolding mechanism is locked effectively.
Anti-crash and fall: the bed opening should prevent the baby's head / body from getting stuck in, and the head and foot space meets the safety limit. The height of the guardrail meets the requirements for avoiding climbing and falling;
Material safety: surface coating lead 90mg\/ kg (in line with SORI/2016-193); Total lead content 90 mg / kg (in line with SOR / 2018-83); DEHP\/ DBP\/ BBP 0.1% (in line with SOR\/2016-188); Banned TCEP phosphate flame retardant;
Requirements for identification: a permanent label with manufacturer name, model batch, date of manufacture, ageapplicable (e.g. 0-6 months), a compliance statement; Include a bilingual English and French instruction manual with warnings such as "always being cared for." Meeting the requirements of this Regulation is a mandatory condition for the entry of baby sleep products intothe Canadian market.
