EN 13209-1: Childcare Products - Child Carriers
Purpose:
To standardize the safety design and performance of frame-type child carriers, mitigating risks such as frame failure, shoulder strap detachment, latch malfunction, and child falls, thereby ensuring the safety of children aged 6 months to 3 years (weight 6-18 kg) during wear.
Definition:
EN 13209-1 is a mandatory European standard specifically for childcare products. The current version is EN 13209-1:2015. Together with EN 13209-2, it forms the comprehensive standard for all types of child carriers. It serves as the core basis for CE certification and applies to child carriers with rigid frames.
Testing and certification requirements:
Must undergo testing by a recognized EU-approved third party as the basis for CE certification:
Structural safety: The frame must withstand 1000 opening and closing cycles without failure; shoulder straps must withstand 500 N of pulling without detachment,
Latch safety: The lock must require 150 N of bidirectional force to unlock and prevent accidental activation;
Material safety: Lead content must be s90 ppm, cadmium content must be 75 ppm, and the total phthalate content must be 0.1%;
Marking requirements: The standard number, applicable age/weight range, and wearing instructions must be clearly marked.
