A mandatory European Union standard that restricts the use of flammable materials in toys to prevent children from coming into contact with fire sources, thereby safeguarding the safety of children under the age of 14 while they play.
Standard Definition:
Applicable to toys and components intended for children under the age of 14, with a focus on high-risk categories such as head wear, role-playing costumes, and soft-filled toys. Prohibition of highly flammable materials and restrictions on the use of flammable liquids/gases, as well as limitations on their scenarios and capacities.
Testing and Certification Requirements:
Testing includes vertical/horizontal burning and surface flash over tests to assess burning rates, duration, and smoke toxicity.
Compliance: Burning rate 30 mm/s, burning duration 30 seconds, with no sustained smoldering.
Certification: Requires testing by a laboratory accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025, combined with compliance with other EN71 series standards for CE certification. The 2025 revision has been implemented.
