ASTM F2057 Standard Safety Specification for Clothing Storage Units.

Primary Purpose:

To prevent the risk of child injuries resulting from tipping incidents involving standalone wardrobes, drawer cabinets, and other clothing storage furniture, ensuring the personal safety of children while they are active around the storage units.

 

Standard Definition: 

Current Version: ASTM F2057-23.

Applicable Range: Standalone wardrobes, drawer cabinets, dressing tables, and other clothing storage furniture with a height  686 mm, weight  13.6 kg, and volume  90.6 dm3; excluding bookshelves, embedded or wall-mounted fixed furniture. 

 

Testing and Certification Requirements:

 Stability: Pass tests for clothing load, 10-pound horizontal force, and 60-pound climbing load without tipping.

Anti-tip: Equipped with standardwall-mounting fixtures and automatic interlocking mechanisms for drawers.

Chemical Safety: Coating lead  90 ppm, composite wood formaldehyde  0.05 ppm.

Physical Safety: Edges rounded without sharp points; drawer slides protected against falling and pinching.

 Marking and Certification: The product must be permanently marked with information about the manufacturer, the standard number ASTM F2057-23, and a safety warning stating, "Please securely attach the product to the wall before use".

Testing by a third-party laboratory accredited by ISO 17025 is required. For use in child-oriented scenarios, the storage unit must be accompanied by a CPC certificate, for adult models, a GCC certificate is requiredOnly products meeting all criteria can be marketed in North America.
